Seminaries are not merely center for academic instruction but a foundation for intellectual and ethical revolution -Indian Scholar

Hujjatul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Sayyed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi, a prominent Indian Islamic scholar said: is not merely a center for academic instruction but a foundation for intellectual and ethical revolution.

Hujjatul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Sayyed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi, a prominent Indian Islamic scholar, delivered a powerful address during the Chehlum commemoration ceremony of the revered cleric Ayatollah Agha Sayyed Muhammad Baqir al-Moosavi al-Safavi al-Najafi at the Central Imambara in Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir.

The event witnessed the participation of thousands of mourners from across the region. The gathering began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by traditional elegies, recited by leading speakers.

In his keynote address titled “Knowledge, Existence, and Human Development,” Gharavi delivered deep and practical insights.

He emphasized that the "Hawza Ilmiya" (seminary) is not merely a center for academic instruction but a foundation for intellectual and ethical revolution.

He stressed, teachers must adopt the mental and moral development of students as their guiding principle.
Quoting the Holy Qur’an, Gharavi highlighted that revelation descends upon hearts that are "pure, awakened, and active," reaffirming the spiritual prerequisites for true understanding.

He asserted, “You are created to live, not to perish,” clarifying that movement is essential to life, and both individuals and nations lose their vitality when they succumb to stagnation.
“Knowledge is not acquainted with stillness,” he declared. “It is a continuous journey of expansion and progress.” He further underscored the importance of clear and structured terminology in educational discourse, noting that "conceptual clarity is essential for the advancement of knowledge."
Gharavi urged youth and intellectuals to not restrict knowledge to theoretical realms but to actively implement its principles in daily life. He said both academic and practical progress must go hand-in-hand for a meaningful and sustainable development.
Prior to the Majlis, Gharavi paid a brief yet significant visit to Jamia Bab-ul-Ilm Islamic Seminary in Mirgund, Budgam, at the invitation of Hujjatul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Agha Sayyed Hassan al-Moosavi al-Safavi, president of the Anjuman-e-Sharie Shia. He was warmly received by seminary teachers and administrators from Maktaba al-Zahra, Hasanabad, Srinagar.
During this visit, Agha Sayyed Mujtaba Abbas al-Moosavi al-Safavi presented a detailed account of the religious and social contributions made by the Moosavi family of Budgam. A visual and intellectual profile showcasing the welfare, educational, and religious initiatives of the Anjuman Sharie Shia Association was also shared, which Aqeel al-Gharavi praised highly.
Engaging in a constructive dialogue with scholars and educators, Gharavi reiterated that the destiny of nations is shaped within the intellectual halls of religious institutions. He concluded by saying: “The true impact of religious organizations will only be realized when they combine education, service, and leadership into a unified mission.”
This Chehlum event served as both a tribute to a towering figure in Shia scholarship and a call to action for a revitalized, value-driven educational and religious framework in contemporary society.
